On November 14, 1959, Kiluaea Iki-a small crater outside of Kilauea Volcano's caldera-erupted and did so continuously for thirty six days. At one point, the fire fountain reached a height of 1,900 feet, the highest volcanic eruption ever recorded in Hawaii.
